Stop the madness! And the niblets.
July 10th, 2006 by knomatThere are two things I would like to propose be removed from the English language.
1. The word “niblet”
2. The phrase “from soup to nuts”
I can’t tell you how much these things bother me. The word niblet sounds too much like giblet, and I’d prefer not to think of the innards of a fowl any time someone is talking about “munchies” or “little pieces of food.” Niblet? I mean, seriously. Can’t we think of a better word? How about, oh, I don’t know … morsel?
And the whole soup to nuts thing? I understand the reasoning behind this, but seriously … the Roman Empire has disbanded and we don’t sit around for 7 day feasts anymore. Furthermore, who finishes their meal with nuts? Nuts are for crunching on whilst imbibing frosty adult beverages. Pie is for finishing meals. Start to finish, people. Not soup to nuts. Start to finish!
